The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) has made significant progress towards its reentry into the World Rugby Council. A unanimous decision during a special general meeting on Saturday approved its new organizational structure. The reconstruction sees the emergence of the Fiji Rugby Football Union Charity Trust, overseeing the Union’s two main sectors: commercial and operational.
A new management company, Fiji Rugby Union Pte Ltd, will advocate for the constitution, manage the FRU board of directors, the chief executive, and Rugby House operations. Conversely, Counter Ruck Pte Ltd, owning the Fijian Drua franchise, integrates with the Union through a 49% asset share.
“It’s been a long road, and now rugby has a structure we will be registering, and everything will be in order again,” said FRU board of trustees chair, Peter Mazey. The process of embodying this new structure involved a lengthy period of consultation and crucial contributions from their unions.
Lastly, the Trustee’s achievement of the goals set by World Rugby Council paves the way for the Union’s potential return to the council. The FRU now looks forward to its next critical phase, the annual general meeting, scheduled within the next 45 days.
