Fiji Rugby Union Maps Bold Growth Path After Inclusive General Assembly

The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) General Assembly recently convened, addressing significant issues impacting rugby unions and outlining the sport’s future trajectory. Chairman John Sanday emphasized the assembly as a crucial platform for dialogue, enabling stakeholders to share insights and plan for the growth of rugby within Fiji and on the international stage.

“This gathering is essential for us to listen and understand the perspectives of rugby unions,” Sanday noted. “We aim to take this feedback back to our leadership and weave it into our future strategies.” The assembly served not only to communicate the union’s vision for enhancing rugby’s global presence but also to discuss ways to elevate domestic competitions.

Sanday expressed enthusiasm about the vibrant exchanges of ideas during the meeting, calling it an inspiring experience that will positively influence plans for the 2026 season. He underscored that the collective input gathered would be instrumental in shaping a well-resourced union going forward.

Feedback from assembly members has been overwhelmingly positive. Sanday shared his commitment to transparency, stressing the importance of keeping members informed to eliminate any potential misinformation. “I want my members to feel included, ensuring we’re all aligned on our goals and working together as one big family,” he remarked.

The primary objective of the assembly was to enhance member awareness regarding the union’s activities over the past year, fostering a sense of belonging and collective progress. “My key outcome is to ensure that members leave with a clear understanding of our work and feel they are an integral part of it,” Sanday concluded.

This assembly reflects a hopeful outlook for the future of rugby in Fiji, as the union looks to harness the collective strength and support of its members towards ambitious goals in the coming years.
