The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is set to embark on a transformative journey as they kick off the new year with an initiative aimed at enhancing the operational standards of rugby unions throughout the country. Following a challenging year, FRU is determined to start 2024 with a proactive approach by conducting a comprehensive series of visitations across all member unions.

The FRU’s CEO highlighted the necessity of this initiative, stating that the upcoming strategy will consist of three waves focused on consultation, training, and education. Each team will travel to various unions to evaluate and bolster essential areas including governance, coaching, training, education, accreditation, and compliance with established participation terms.

“We will look at everything from governance, coaching, training and education, to accreditation and adherence to terms of participation. Our goal is to audit each union, identify gaps, and provide targeted guidance to elevate all unions to a higher standard,” explained the CEO.

As part of this strategy, the FRU aims to address compliance issues by standardizing governance procedures, enhancing coaching and player development, and meticulously monitoring adherence to established rules. This comprehensive approach is expected to significantly strengthen the framework within which Fijian rugby operates, ultimately leading to an uplift in the sport’s overall quality and performance across the nation.

This commitment reflects the FRU’s dedication to fostering a supportive environment for rugby in Fiji, paving the way for a bright and prosperous future for the sport in the region.
