The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) has initiated its first round of consultations aimed at enhancing operational standards among its member unions nationwide. This initiative follows the FRU Annual General Meeting last month, as announced by chief executive Koli Sewabu, who emphasized that this marks a significant step forward for the organization as it heads towards 2026.
Recognized as a Tier One nation, the national men’s 15s team, the Fiji Water Flying Fijians, underscores the urgent need for member unions to adhere to improving operational and governance standards. The consultations began in the Western Division, focusing on unions in Nanukuloa, Ra, Tavua, Vatukoula, and Ba.
During these sessions, important topics were discussed, including presentations on the FRU’s new strategic plan, alignment strategies, and preliminary compliance requirements. The meetings also addressed governance and training needs, along with critical issues such as the 2026 competition calendar, player welfare, and strategies to enhance the efficiency of game delivery throughout the year.
The proactive approach taken by the FRU reflects a commitment to fostering a robust rugby environment in Fiji, ensuring that all member unions are equipped to support ongoing development in the sport. This focus on compliance and governance showcases the FRU’s dedication to building a strong foundation for the future of rugby in Fiji.
