The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) will have a new board of directors and chairman, the selection of which will occur at its yearly general meeting within a span of 45 days. The decision to elect new members was made during a special gathering in Suva over the weekend, with the meeting’s focal points being governance reforms and the future path of the association.
During this meeting, FRU announced the establishment of a new body, Fiji Rugby Union Limited, which aims to drive the organization and the sport into the following three decades and beyond. According to FRU Chairman Peter Mazey, this fresh structure will involve a charity watchdog that will monitor crucial assets and operations.
With this restructuring will come alterations to the board member selection procedure, eliminating positions previously assigned to government, Prime Minister’s nominees or World Rugby nominees. The modifications aim to democratize the FRU’s governance, giving greater influence to the Unions while laying emphasis on commercial viability.
