A couple has faced charges in the Suva Magistrates Court for allegedly defrauding the Fiji Rugby Union. Pawan Deo, a former accountant for the organization, and his wife Subhashni Mudaliar each face a charge of conspiracy to defraud, as well as charges of obtaining a gain and financial advantage.
The court was informed that Deo, who was the sole owner of Sports Supplies Limited and the accountant for the Fiji Rugby Union, conspired with his wife to unlawfully acquire $53,788.75 from the FRU. This alleged crime took place in 2022.
It is claimed that they facilitated fraudulent payments to SSL, resulting in the couple receiving $7,291.83 for the company, despite knowing that they were not entitled to the funds. The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption reported that both individuals appeared in court yesterday and were remanded in custody. A bail hearing for the pair is set to take place today.
