The Fiji Secondary School Rugby Union is considering alternative venues for the Vodafone Deans final scheduled for August 23, 2025. This deliberation arises from concerns over the HFC Bank Stadium’s current condition, which is under pressure to be repaired before the FIJI Water Flying Fijians face Tonga in the Pacific Nations Cup on August 30.

FSSRU vice president Biu Colati expressed dissatisfaction with the Fiji Sports Council’s lack of clarity regarding the stadium’s availability for the Deans final, prompting the organization to explore other locations. Currently, the various regional zones plan to host their finals independently on their respective home grounds, with the national quarter-finals slated for August 9 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi and the semi-finals on August 16 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

This responsiveness to potential venue issues underlines the FSSRU’s commitment to ensuring that its premier secondary schools’ rugby competition proceeds smoothly and meets the expectations of its participants and fans. It is essential for the organization to adapt swiftly to challenges, ensuring that young athletes still get a chance to showcase their skills in a competitive environment.

As preparation for the Deans final continues, other elements of the competition, such as the semi-finals and regional matches, are expected to proceed as planned, which reflects the resilience and ongoing enthusiasm for youth rugby across Fiji. The FSSRU’s proactive approach demonstrates a dedication to fostering the growth of rugby among secondary school students in the region.
