The Fiji Rugby Union has announced the appointment of Pita Tutuvula Waqanivalu as its new Chief Financial Officer, starting in February 2026. This move is part of the organization’s strategy to enhance its financial stability and governance, ensuring a robust foundation for the sport in Fiji.

Waqanivalu comes with over ten years of extensive leadership experience in both public and private sectors, showcasing a solid record in financial management, governance, and strategic planning. He began his career at the Bank of the South Pacific and later spent six and a half years with the international chartered accounting firm Ernst & Young. His expertise extends across various international markets, including Jamaica, Singapore, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Nauru, Tonga, and Samoa.

In his new capacity at the Fiji Rugby Union, Waqanivalu will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, enhancing governance frameworks, and facilitating sustainable growth aimed at supporting rugby development across all levels in Fiji. Expressing his enthusiasm about joining the team, Waqanivalu stated, “I am honored to join Fiji Rugby at such an exciting time for the sport in our nation. I look forward to using my experience to foster sustainable growth that supports rugby across Fiji.”

Fiji Rugby CEO Koli Sewabu emphasized that Waqanivalu’s appointment underlines the organization’s commitment to robust financial governance and strategic planning. He highlighted the importance of Waqanivalu’s leadership in expanding rugby’s presence both locally and internationally.
