Another Fijian talent, centre Kalaveti Ravouvou, contributed to the Bears’ scoring, showcasing the depth of talent in Fiji’s rugby scene. Meanwhile, veteran Levani Botia made his season debut for La Rochelle in the French Top 14, although the team faced a tough 23-14 defeat against Vannes.

In an exciting twist, former Wallabies winger Suliasi Vunivalu also made his Top 14 debut, while Salesi Rayasi played for Vannes, further emphasizing the international mix present in the competition. Both Mata and Botia made commendable comebacks from injuries sustained last season, proving their resilience and dedication to the sport.

In other matches, Peceli Yato shone at lock for Clermont, leading them to a commanding 54-10 win over Castres, which featured Vilimoni Botitu and Adrea Cocagi. Botitu managed to convert Castres’ only try, adding to his contributions despite the loss.

Meanwhile, Josua Tuisova and Vinaya Habosi represented Racing 92, although they narrowly lost 21-17 to Toulouse. Semi Radradra returned from suspension to play for Lyon but could not steer the team to victory, as they fell 29-15 to Pau. Lastly, utility back Seta Tuicuvu started for Toulon in their showdown against Alivereti Duguivalu’s USA Perpignan.

Overall, this weekend’s performances showcase the growing influence of Fijian players in international rugby, marking an exciting time for fans and players alike. As these athletes continue to make their mark on the field, the future of Fijian rugby looks promising.
