Fiji Rugby Star Faces Domestic Violence Course After Arrest

Vinaya Habosi, a winger for Racing 92, has been required to attend a domestic violence awareness course following his arrest, as announced by a public prosecutor’s office near Paris. The 24-year-old player was detained on Sunday after police responded to a domestic dispute at his home involving his wife and their baby.

According to eyewitness accounts, Habosi reportedly pushed and struck his wife during the altercation, and the victim corroborated this to the authorities. Reports indicate that Habosi appeared “drunk” during the incident.

The public prosecutors in Nanterre stated that he must participate in a program aimed at raising awareness about preventing domestic violence and addressing sexism, as a condition of avoiding further legal action. However, should he not comply with this order, legal processes could be initiated against him.

Despite the incident, Habosi played as a substitute for 10 minutes in Racing 92’s recent 33-20 victory over Clermont in the French Top 14. The team is set to face Bordeaux-Begles in their next match this Saturday.

Racing 92’s head coach, Stuart Lancaster, mentioned during a press conference that the club is currently investigating the situation. He acknowledged its impact on the team but emphasized the need to focus on the upcoming game.

In a prior incident earlier this year, Habosi was dismissed by Fijian Drua for breaching the club’s code of conduct after a complaint of assault was made to local authorities. Following this, he joined Racing 92 and participated in five matches during last year’s Rugby World Cup, including the quarter-final match against England.
