A new head coach for the Fijiana women’s rugby sevens team will be appointed at the beginning of 2025. This announcement follows Peter Mazey, chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union interim Trustees, stating that the position will be advertised as Saiasi Fuli’s contract concludes in December.
Mazey mentioned, “After discussions with Saiasi Fuli, we’ve decided to open up the head coach position.” The advertisement for the role is expected to be published in the coming week. The Fiji Rugby Union is actively seeking the best candidate to guide the women’s team into its next chapter.
The incoming coach will be responsible for establishing a high-performance strategy aimed at selecting a new team. Mazey also noted that all current contracts for the women’s sevens players have expired following the Olympics, with the exceptions of Younis Bese and Heleina Young, who remain under contract until the end of the year. Fuli expressed gratitude to the FRU for the opportunity to coach the national women’s sevens team, reflecting on the challenges he faced transitioning from a men’s coaching background.
In related news, Osea Kolinisau has been confirmed to continue as the head coach of the Fiji men’s sevens rugby team for the next four years. Mazey praised Kolinisau’s excellent results over the past four months as a demonstration of his ability and vision for the future. Kolinisau’s primary goal will be to secure a gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
