Fiji Rugby Sevens Rising Star Jioji Nasova Makes Olympic Debut in Paris

Team Fiji men’s rugby sevens player Jioji Nasova is set to represent the country at the Paris Olympic Games from July 26 to August 11. Nasova, the only debutant in the HSBC SVNS series this year, expressed his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity.

The 23-year-old reflected on his debut at the Hong Kong Sevens, calling it a special moment. “I made my debut in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Madrid,” Nasova said. “I thank the coaches for having faith in me to allow me to represent Fiji at the Olympics, the world’s finest competition.”

Nasova emphasized the dedication required to defend Fiji’s back-to-back gold medals and promised to strive for a third consecutive win.

Originally from Toge in Ba, Nasova’s rugby journey includes playing for Beijing RC on a one-year contract in 2023, after being scouted while playing for Dominion Brothers. “I played in the Suva 10s, and then a coach from China pulled me out and offered me a contract,” he explained.

Nasova attended Toge Primary School, Nukuloa College, and Ba Provincial Freebird Institute, where he initially played rugby league. His focus shifted to rugby union when he was selected to play for Naitasiri Under-20 in the Skipper Cup competition.
