Fiji Rugby Set for Women’s Coaching Change Ahead of 2025 Season

Fiji Rugby Union will appoint a new head coach for the Fijiana women’s rugby sevens team ahead of the 2025 HSBC SVNS Series. Interim Trustees chairman Peter Mazey announced that the current head coach, Saiasi Fuli, will finish his contract in December, prompting the decision to advertise the position for a replacement.

Mazey indicated that the official advertisement for the coaching role would be made public in the following week, as the union aims to find the most suitable candidate to guide the women’s team into its next chapter. The new coach will be responsible for implementing a high-performance strategy and preparing a new squad.

Following the conclusion of the Olympics, all contracts for the women’s sevens players have expired, with the exception of Younis Bese and Heleina Young, who remain under contract until the end of the year. Fuli expressed his gratitude to the Fiji Rugby Union for the opportunity to coach the national women’s team, reflecting on the challenges he faced after transitioning from a men’s coaching background.

In related news, Osea Kolinisau will remain the head coach for the Fiji men’s sevens rugby team for the next four years. Mazey confirmed this decision, praising Kolinisau’s impressive results in recent months and his vision for the future. Kolinisau’s primary goal is to secure a gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
