As the Fiji Airways men’s sevens team gears up for the upcoming HSBC SVNS World Series, they are also focusing on internal preparations by taking part in the Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s tournament this month. The tournament will feature two teams from Fiji’s national sevens squad, along with a team from Swire Shipping Fijian Drua.
Suliano Volivoli emphasized the importance of the Mataso competition, indicating that it will motivate the players to enhance their performance ahead of the Dubai 7s event. “We are looking towards preparing ourselves well for our game time there so that we are ready when we depart for the Dubai 7s,” Volivoli remarked.
As the national team gears up for the Lautoka event, it is expected that passionate rugby fans will attend the Mataso tournament to gain insights into the team dynamics before the Dubai 7s. Head coach Osea Kolinisau noted that the final selection of the team was anticipated to be announced earlier this month. Training alongside their female counterparts, the Fijiana, at Bidesi Park indicated that choosing the final squad will be a challenging task for Kolinisau. Despite the pressure of selection, he remains optimistic about the team’s performance in the upcoming 2024/2025 world series leg.
The Mataso 7s tournament is scheduled to take place on November 15-16 at Churchill Park in Lautoka, providing an exciting opportunity for both players and fans in the lead-up to the international competition.
In summary, this competitive spirit not only prepares the players for their significant future engagements but also engages the community, enhancing support for the national teams. This buildup could foster a sense of unity and positivity among fans, creating a vibrant atmosphere as they rally behind their teams in the upcoming events.
