Fiji Rugby Player’s Death in Tokyo Shocks Community, Future in Sport Remembered Fondly

The community at Nihon University in Tokyo, Japan is reeling from the sudden death of a Fiji rugby player, Sekove Tagicakiverata, last Friday. Having previously been admitted to the hospital on Thursday, his passing was declared the following day.

In a heartfelt response, renowned sevens player Waisale Serevi paid tribute to Tagicakiverata on his Facebook page, showcasing resilience amid the difficulty by accepting the divine plan as being superior to his own.

Tagicakiverata, an alumnus of the Marist Brothers High School, had demonstrated his dedication and zest for life both on and off the rugby field. He played utility back for the Eastern Saints and the Covenant Brothers in the Suva Rugby Union club competition and was widely regarded as a rising star in the sport.

Off the field, Tagicakiverata was actively involved in the Officers Cadet training of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces. Friends described him as hardworking and cheerful, leaving a vibrant impression on those who knew him.

The cause of Tagicakiverata’s death is presently unknown and is under investigation.
