Fiji Rugby Player Sekove Tagicakiverata’s Sudden Death Shocks Tokyo University Community

The untimely death of Fijian rugby player Sekove Tagicakiverata, who was studying at Nihon University in Tokyo, Japan, has stunned and saddened the local community. The young athlete was abruptly taken to the hospital last Thursday, where he tragically passed away on Friday.

Tagicakiverata’s demise drew emotional reactions, including from rugby legend Waisale Serevi, who expressed his grief on his Facebook page. Citing his own life’s challenges, he added that he trusts in God’s better plans.

Tagicakiverata attended the Marist Brothers High School and displayed his sportsmanship in rugby union club competitions for the Eastern Saints and Covenant Brothers. He was remembered by friends as a player who blended tireless work ethic and a jovial nature, both on and off the rugby field. Those who witnessed his skill in the game foresaw a promising future for him in the sport.

In addition to his rugby endeavors, Tagicakiverata participated in the Officers Cadet training with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of his sudden death.
