Fiji Rugby League’s Game-Changer: MiniMod Lalai Program Takes Off!

Fiji Bati Head Coach Wise Kativerata has expressed enthusiasm for the newly launched MiniMod Lalai Rugby League Program, which he believes is a significant enhancement for the growth of Fiji Rugby League. Initiated by the Engadine Dragons Pacific Development Program in collaboration with Muaira Rugby League, the program commenced in Lautoka with an aim to develop Under 10 teams across the nation.

Kativerata views this initiative as crucial for the future of Fiji Rugby League, projecting immense benefits over the next decade. He pointed out that Australian clubs excel at imparting essential rugby skills to young players, capturing their interest and keeping them engaged in constructive activities rather than idleness in the streets. He stated, “The kids enjoy everything that they do… it helps the development from the grassroots level all the way to the NRL club and ultimately to Fiji.”

In addition, Kativerata expressed his intention to extend the program to regions such as Vanua Levu and the Eastern Division, where he recognizes a wealth of talent waiting to be cultivated. He suggested collaborating with those who introduced the program to further its reach, thereby providing more young players with opportunities to benefit from this foundational training.

The positive impact of grassroots initiatives like MiniMod Lalai is echoed in the recent training workshops conducted by Kativerata, where he has emphasized the importance of nurturing young players’ fundamental skills. These efforts are part of a committed push to expand the sport’s footprint across Fiji, fostering a new generation of rugby talent.

This initiative bolsters community engagement in sports while offering hope for a vibrant rugby culture that awakens the dreams of young athletes across the islands.
