The Vusu Raiders rugby league team celebrated a triumphant awards night at the Vineyard Palace Restaurant in Suva last Saturday, recognizing their success in the 2024 season. The event highlighted the team’s victories in the Vodafone Cup, the Eastern State competition, and the Fijian Cup nines tournament. The night included special acknowledgments for players who represented both the Vodafone Fiji Bati and the Fiji Residents teams.
The atmosphere was festive as attendees donned green attire, from traditional dresses to bula shirts, reflecting their team spirit and pride in their achievements. The captain of the Vodafone Fiji Bati, Tui Kamikamica, served as the chief guest, having travelled from his home island of Taveuni to attend the celebration during his holiday break.
A video showcasing the team’s journey in the Fijian Cup nines competition was presented, further uplifting the spirits of the gathered supporters. Among the awards given out that night were:
– Rookie of the Year: Emoni Nagauna
– Best Forward of the Year: Eremasi Batibasaga
– Best Backline: Leveni Tani
– Player of the Year: Ereqe Batibasaga (Captain)
In recognition of their national contributions, players from the Fiji Bati squad included Leveni Tani, Ifereimi Tovilevu, and Selo Sanawa, who serves as the strength and conditioning coach. Meanwhile, awardees from the Fiji Residents included Ereqe Batibasaga, Peniasi Kuruivitu, and Eremasi Batibasaga.
