The Fiji Rakavi Football Union (FRFU) Ltd board of directors is currently reviewing a crucial document that will enable them to take full operational control of Rugby House. Despite the anticipation surrounding this governance transition, the board has yet to sign the Deed of Arrangement, which is necessary for them to begin overseeing all operational matters.

Peter Mazey, the chairman of the board of trustees, stated that the document is pending the board’s approval, emphasizing that they have not yet put pen to paper. This comes in the wake of comments made by FRFU board chairman John Sanday, who indicated that the Fiji Rugby Union trustees are still managing all operations at Rugby House. Sanday described the transition as ongoing and structured to promote greater efficiency and accountability through a modern governance model.

The proposed Deed of Arrangement aims to formally cede operational control from the Trustees to the Board of Directors, thereby allowing FRFU Ltd to oversee the commercial, financial, and administrative aspects of Fiji Rugby. This arrangement will empower FRFU Ltd to manage all new contracts, sponsorship agreements, and financial transactions independently, while the Trustees will retain legal oversight of existing contracts but relinquish direct operational control.

Once the document is signed, several significant changes will occur:
– FRFU Ltd will take full responsibility for employment contracts and financial management.
– The Trustees will act solely on directives from the board, ensuring continuity during the transition.
– All new agreements will be exclusively managed by FRFU Ltd.

Sanday noted that the timeline for these changes is being carefully managed to comply with all legal and regulatory requirements. He expressed optimism that these reforms will enhance Fiji Rugby’s operational independence and decision-making capabilities.

Overall, this transition marks a pivotal moment for Fiji Rugby, promoting an organized future that emphasizes accountability and streamlined operations, ultimately benefiting all stakeholders involved.
