Less than 48 hours after the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union (FSSRU) confirmed Govind Park in Ba as the venue for the 2025 Vodafone Deans and Weet-Bix Raluve finals, the organization has hit a snag in their planning as the ground is no longer available. The FSSRU announced this change through a circular signed by Secretary Navitalai Weiwalu, only to retract the confirmation due to prior bookings for the venue made last year.
The national quarterfinals are still set to take place at Prince Charles Park in Nadi and Churchill Park in Lautoka, while the semifinals will be held in Sigatoka. The urgency to find a new venue is heightened due to the unavailability of the HFC Bank Stadium on August 23rd for the finals. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka clarified that he did not close the HFC Stadium and does not possess the authority to do so; he merely raised concerns regarding the pitch’s condition during a recent test match.
The search for an alternative venue comes at a time when the FSSRU is committed to maintaining the integrity and excitement of the competition. With the finals set to feature promising young talent, the organization emphasizes its dedication to fostering opportunities for students, adjusting swiftly to logistical challenges to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Moreover, this situation underscores the importance of effective venue management and communication, as the FSSRU continues to proactively explore options for hosting the finals. Meanwhile, the excitement builds as local fans prepare to watch matches live on FBC 2, with overseas viewers able to tune in to selected matches on Viti+.
The resilience shown by the FSSRU in navigating these challenges reflects a commitment to providing a platform for young athletes to excel, fostering not only competitive spirit but also community engagement through the sport of rugby.
