The Fiji Airways men’s sevens team will be chosen next weekend following the conclusion of the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens tournament in Sigatoka. Head coach Osea Kolinisau emphasized that no player has a secure position in the final squad during a training session held at Bidesi Park in Suva. He mentioned that all players, including those on Mike Friday’s team, will be in contention for selection.

Kolinisau underscored the importance of fitness and teamwork as the team prepares for the upcoming tournament in Perth. He aims to enhance the team’s defensive strategies, particularly during crucial moments in matches. Emphasizing communication, decision-making, and maintaining standards, he encouraged the players to stick to their processes even in fatigue.

Key players participating in Mike Friday’s Select 7s team include Lasaro Bogisa, Manueli Maisamoa, Iowane Teba, and Jerry Tuwai among others. The Fiji team has been placed in Pool MA with tough competitors like New Zealand sevens, Tuva Rugby, and Brothers.

The Coral Coast 7s tournament is set to take place from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park, presenting an exciting opportunity for players to showcase their skills and possibly earn a spot on the national team.

In summary, this selection process highlights the competitive nature of Fiji’s rugby scene, as players must demonstrate their worth in an effort to join the elite ranks of the national sevens team. The Coral Coast Sevens serves not only as a platform for talent but also as a testament to Fiji’s rich rugby heritage, providing a hopeful outlook for the future of the sport in the country.
