Fiji has proudly launched its inaugural MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) database and strategic plan, aimed at enhancing the MSME ecosystem to foster inclusive economic growth across the country. The unveiling took place at the Civic Centre in Suva, with Minister for Finance, Commerce, and Business Development Esrom Immanuel officiating the event.
Immanuel emphasized that for too long, Fijian MSMEs have faced challenges due to limited support and fragmented services, which hindered their potential. He expressed optimism about the future with the introduction of the Strategic Plan, which outlines a comprehensive five-year roadmap designed to reinforce MSME foundations and align with national economic priorities.
“This Strategic Plan sets out a clear five-year roadmap that strengthens our MSME foundations while aligning closely with our national economic priorities. The MSME Database establishes a vital backbone for evidence-based policymaking, enabling us to better understand the MSME landscape, identify challenges, and develop solutions that truly meet our entrepreneurs’ needs,” Immanuel stated.
The Minister highlighted that these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to fostering partnerships, innovation, and shared progress. He pointed out that the establishment of the MSME Strategic Plan and Database is not the achievement of a single ministry or institution but is the result of collaborative efforts involving development partners, industry leaders, and MSMEs across Fiji. This collaborative approach ensures that the initiatives are practical, inclusive, and attuned to the realities faced by local enterprises.
Additionally, Immanuel noted that the two initiatives are rooted in the values of sustainability, resilience, and inclusivity, in line with the government’s vision for 2050 and the National Development Plan for 2025-2029. This forward-thinking strategy aims to cultivate a robust environment for MSMEs, ultimately contributing to economic resilience and prosperity in Fiji.
