The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has introduced new regulations for hand-carried commercial cargo brought into Fiji by travelers at Nadi and Nausori International Airports. In a recent announcement directed to airlines, shipping agents, freight forwarders, and the public, FRCS outlined that all commercial goods transported by passengers must have specific details submitted to a Customs Agent prior to the arrival of the aircraft or vessel.

The new requirements mandate that travelers provide the consignee’s Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), the specific location at the airport (Baggage Hall), and a valid invoice. These changes aim to facilitate the timely registration of the Single Administrative Document (SAD) in the ASYCUDA World (AW) system, which is expected to enhance the efficiency of customs processing upon arrival.

In light of the new procedures, travelers transporting commercial goods are strongly encouraged to work in advance with their chosen Licensed Customs Agent to guarantee a smooth and timely clearance process for their shipments. The FRCS emphasized that this simplified procedure not only seeks to expedite cargo clearance but also aims to reduce costs in the supply chain, enforce compliance with customs regulations, and enhance predictability in the importation process for both travelers and consignees.

These new measures reflect a proactive effort by the FRCS to improve operational efficiency and enhance the overall experience for travelers and businesses engaged in international trade, fostering a more streamlined import process that benefits all parties involved.
