The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways in Fiji has presented a new freezer truck to Fresher Marketing Ltd., a strategic move designed to enhance the nation’s agricultural exports and open up further opportunities for rural farmers. This development is part of the larger Commercial Agricultural Development Programme, which has allocated $2.5 million to provide essential infrastructure support to exporters.
Agriculture Minister Tomasi Tunabuna commended Fresher Marketing Ltd. for its role in supplying fresh and frozen produce to international markets. “This truck represents more than just a cooling vehicle,” he remarked. “It signifies progress, opportunity, and our collective pledge to bolster exporters and farmers.”
This initiative parallels ongoing efforts in the country to improve the agricultural sector, as seen in the recent opening of new processing and storage facilities aimed at empowering rural farmers. Such developments are seen as vital for connecting high-quality crops from rural areas to wider markets, addressing longstanding challenges such as inadequate infrastructure.
With taro exports reaching an impressive $41.3 million in 2024, the introduction of this freezer truck is expected to maintain product quality and broaden Fiji’s overseas market presence. This aligns with a broader positive trend in Fiji’s agricultural exports, which have shown significant growth and resulted in savings on import costs.
The new infrastructure is anticipated to have a transformative impact on the agricultural community, enhancing market accessibility and economic resilience for rural farmers. These combined efforts underscore an optimistic future for Fiji’s agriculture, with increased job opportunities and sustainable growth driving the sector forward.
