The Fiji Police Force has issued a warning regarding the increase of reckless and impatient driving on the country’s roads. Police Operations Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Kasiano Vusonilawe highlighted that many motorists are neglecting basic traffic rules, such as yielding to other drivers and demonstrating respect on the road.

Particular concern has been raised about public service vehicle (PSB) drivers, who are exhibiting a notable disregard for proper road conduct. According to police observations, there is a troubling trend of drivers ignoring fundamental regulations, which is contributing to unnecessary traffic congestion and escalating risks of accidents.

“The patience of drivers appears to be lacking,” ACP Vusonilawe stated, adding that some individuals show a complete disregard for established norms, which include right-of-way rules. He calls upon all drivers to remain patient, adhere to traffic laws, and act responsibly, especially in crowded areas.

In response to the growing issue, Land Transport Authority Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa mentioned that the agency is actively working to identify areas in need of improvement to enhance driving standards. “All within the intent to ensure that driving regulations and behavior continue to evolve positively,” Rokosawa noted.

As impatient and reckless driving contribute to increased congestion and the potential for accidents in Fiji, authorities are continuously urging motorists to follow established rules and maintain composure while driving. The collective effort from both law enforcement and transport officials underscores the importance of road safety for all users.
