The Fiji Roads Authority has allocated a capital budget of $388 million for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, as announced by the Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, during a recent parliamentary session.
Of the total budget, $275 million, which accounts for 71 percent, is designated for maintenance and renewals. Additionally, $70 million is earmarked for new capital projects, while $42 million will be directed towards the Transport Infrastructure Investment Sector program.
In July, the FRA plans to allocate $120 million specifically for maintenance programs, which will cover routine and cyclic upkeep of road infrastructure that includes bridges, crossings, jetties, traffic lights, streetlights, and traffic signals, as well as the maintenance of FRA depots.
Furthermore, $15 million will be set aside in December for the construction of two jetties, one located in Makogai and the other in Vanuabalavu. The FRA also intends to invest $19 million in building new access roads during the July to December period.
