The Fiji Roads Authority has announced plans to expand several roads in the Suva-Nausori corridor to alleviate persistent traffic congestion. This infrastructure improvement project includes widening Ratudovi Road from Nadera to Laqere, Fletcher Road from Nanuku to Laucala Bay Road, and Princess Road from Khalsa Road to Samabula, increasing them to four lanes.
Transport and Infrastructure Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau emphasized the importance of these initiatives during a recent parliamentary session. He explained that the road widening efforts are part of a comprehensive medium-to-long-term infrastructure development strategy aimed at enhancing transport services.
Additionally, Minister Tuisawau discussed the need for growth within the transport sector that focuses on sustainability. This includes an implementation strategy for decarbonization, evaluating current transport emissions, pinpointing areas for improvement, and establishing clear, achievable targets for urban transport emissions.
This proactive approach to improving road infrastructure and sustainability indicates a commitment to not only enhancing roadway efficiency but also to focusing on environmentally friendly solutions for future development in Fiji.
Overall, the project signals a promising step forward for Fiji, helping tackle daily commuting challenges while aligning with global trends toward greener transport options.
