Minister for Public Enterprises, Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, Charan Jeath Singh, has shared a strategic vision for Fiji Rice Pte Limited that focuses on enhancing its commercial performance, engaging youth, and ensuring long-term food security.

During his recent visit to the Dreketi Mill, Singh engaged with the company’s board, chief executive officer, management, and staff to review operational effectiveness and to discuss future initiatives. He received updates concerning production trends, financial health, infrastructure improvements, and plans for expansion.

Singh underscored the importance of Fiji Rice as a vital national asset, highlighting its multifaceted role that extends beyond agribusiness to encompass support for local farmers, bolstering food security, and contributing to the overall agricultural landscape. He emphasized the necessity for the public enterprise to boost productivity, increase revenues, maintain commercial discipline, and progressively lessen its dependence on government funding.

While reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting Fiji Rice, Singh noted that such support should be accompanied by accountability, measurable outcomes, and effective execution. He expressed optimism that with targeted leadership and reforms in place, the company can attain higher levels of financial independence and continue to fulfill its role in the national interest.

This proactive approach represents a significant step toward securing Fiji’s agricultural future, providing hope for both local stakeholders and consumers in the community.
