The Ministry of Education is set to revive the interview process for Year 13 students aiming to enroll in teacher training institutions throughout the country. This initiative will be carried out in partnership with various educational bodies, including Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs), the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority (FTRA), the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF), and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS).
Education Minister Aseri Radrodro expressed enthusiasm about this opportunity for Year 13 graduates who aspire to join the teaching profession. He emphasized the need for qualified teachers in Fiji, highlighting that the teacher training programs should not only be rigorous but also designed to attract suitable candidates.
This initiative is part of the Denarau Declaration for 2024-2033, which aims to strengthen collaboration between TTIs and stakeholders to ensure graduates are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in educational settings. Radrodro noted that the ministry is dedicated to enhancing the educational landscape and believes that teachers are pivotal to this mission.
He further outlined priority teaching areas that are currently in high demand, including primary education, special and inclusive education, and various science and arts subjects. The closing date for online TSLS applications is set for January 31, 2025. Scholarship programs for higher education will focus on specific areas such as Bachelor of Education degrees, including secondary education tracks in mathematics, physics, and other disciplines.
The Ministry, in collaboration with TTIs, will conduct two rounds of interviews, with eligible students receiving notifications regarding the dates and venues through email or phone communication.
This initiative not only aims to enhance the quality of education in Fiji but also presents a valuable opportunity for young individuals to make a significant impact on future generations of learners.
