The Fiji Red Cross Society has initiated its response to assist communities in the Western region impacted by recent flooding. Recognizing the critical importance of clean water during emergencies, especially given the heightened risk of diseases such as typhoid and diarrhoea, the organization has prioritized water supply efforts.
The Red Cross team has identified immediate water needs in evacuation centers in Nadi, prompting collaboration with Frezco Beverages Pte Ltd, which kindly donated 100 cartons of Fijian Artesian Water. This contribution is aimed at supporting families affected by the disaster.
Meanwhile, volunteers in Tavua have been dedicated to aiding families at the Tavua District School evacuation center. In their ongoing efforts, they are distributing essential items, including dignity kits and black packs, to provide relief to those in need.
In addition to their distribution efforts, the volunteers are actively conducting awareness sessions to educate families on preventing diseases such as Leptospirosis, Dengue Fever, Diarrhea, and Typhoid. These sessions are crucial in promoting health and safety during such challenging times.
This tremendous work by the Fiji Red Cross demonstrates the spirit of community and resilience in the face of adversity. Their ongoing support not only addresses immediate needs but also empowers families with knowledge that can help protect their health.
In summary, the actions taken by the Fiji Red Cross Society reflect a strong commitment to serve and uplift communities during crises, fostering hope and solidarity amidst challenging circumstances.
