The Fiji Red Cross Society has actively commenced efforts to assist communities in the western region of Fiji that have been significantly impacted by recent flooding. Recognizing that clean water is critical during emergencies—where the likelihood of waterborne diseases such as typhoid and diarrhea escalates—the Red Cross team has prioritized this need.

Specifically, they identified that evacuation centers in Nadi required immediate access to clean water. To address this urgent necessity, they collaborated with Frezco Beverages Pte Ltd, which generously donated 100 cartons of 1.5-liter bottles of Fijian artesian water to support families affected by the disaster.

In Tavua, volunteers are diligently working to provide assistance at the Tavua District School evacuation center, where they are distributing dignity kits and black packs, offering vital relief to displaced families. These kits ensure that basic needs are met while fostering a sense of dignity during these challenging times.

Furthermore, Fiji Red Cross volunteers are not only delivering essential items but are also conducting educational sessions to raise awareness about the prevention of diseases such as Leptospirosis, Dengue Fever, Diarrhea, and Typhoid. This proactive approach highlights the organization’s commitment to both immediate relief efforts and long-term health education.

In summary, the Fiji Red Cross Society is making significant strides in supporting communities affected by flooding through both essential aid and health awareness initiatives, demonstrating resilience and solidarity in the face of adversity.
