The Fiji Red Cross Society has initiated crucial support efforts for communities in the western region impacted by recent flooding. Recognizing the critical need for clean water during such crises—especially given the heightened risk of water-borne diseases like typhoid and diarrhea—the organization has prioritized this essential resource.
The Red Cross team identified pressing water shortages in evacuation centers located in Nadi. In a commendable collaborative effort, they partnered with Frezco Beverages Pte Ltd, which generously donated 100 cartons of 1.5-litre bottles of Fijian Artesian Water to assist families in need.
Dedicated volunteers from the Fiji Red Cross are also on the ground in Tavua, providing ongoing support to families taking shelter at the Tavua District School evacuation center. Their efforts include distributing dignity kits and black packs, which offer vital relief to those affected.
In addition to delivering these necessities, the Red Cross volunteers have been proactive in conducting awareness sessions aimed at preventing diseases such as Leptospirosis, Dengue Fever, diarrhea, and typhoid, helping to educate families about health precautions during this difficult time.
The Fiji Red Cross Society’s rapid and extensive response serves as a hopeful reminder of community resilience and the importance of collective action in the face of adversity. Their efforts not only provide immediate relief but also foster a sense of solidarity among those affected.
