The Fiji Red Cross Society has mobilized its resources to assist communities in the western regions affected by recent flooding. Recognizing the critical need for clean water during such health crises, the organization highlights the increased risk of diseases like typhoid and diarrhea in these situations.
In response to the urgent need for safe drinking water, particularly in evacuation centers in Nadi, Fiji Red Cross reached out to Frezco Beverages Pte Ltd, which generously donated 100 cartons of 1.5-liter Fijian artesian water to support the families impacted by the floods.
In addition to water distribution, volunteers in Tavua have been actively helping families at the Tavua District School evacuation center. They are providing essential items, including dignity kits and black packs, to ease the burden on those affected. Furthermore, the volunteers are conducting educational sessions aimed at preventing infectious diseases such as Leptospirosis, Dengue Fever, Diarrhea, and Typhoid.
This swift action by the Fiji Red Cross reflects the organization’s commitment to community welfare during emergencies. Their efforts not only provide immediate relief but also equip families with the knowledge they need to protect their health during this challenging time.
In summary, the Fiji Red Cross is making significant strides to support flood-affected communities by ensuring access to clean water and important health information, fostering a sense of hope and resilience among those impacted by the natural disaster.
