Fiji Rallies to Support Vanuatu After Devastating Earthquake

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) will dispatch a team to Vanuatu to aid in recovery efforts following a devastating 7.3-magnitude earthquake that struck the nation on Tuesday.

In his statement, Mr. Rabuka mentioned that arrangements are being made to repatriate any Fijians residing in Vanuatu if the situation warrants it. To facilitate possible evacuations, a Fiji Airways aircraft has been placed on standby.

The RFMF team is expected to stay in Vanuatu throughout the Christmas season to assist with ongoing relief operations. The earthquake has resulted in the tragic loss of 14 lives, left approximately 200 individuals injured, and caused extensive damage, including collapsed homes, landslides obstructing roads, and damaged vehicles.

The Prime Minister stressed that this deployment demonstrates Fiji’s broader commitment to support its neighbors in times of crisis, reaffirming the nation’s dedication to helping Vanuatu recover from this disaster.
