Fiji President in Sydney Urges Diaspora to Belong, Serve, and Remit

The President of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, and First Lady Emily Lalabalavu held an engaging meeting with the Fijian community in Sydney recently. Attendees expressed a sense of warmth and familiarity, appreciating the opportunity to reconnect with their President and receive updates about life back home in Fiji.

In his speech, President Lalabalavu addressed various developments within Fiji, extending his gratitude to the diaspora for their unwavering support towards their families and communities. He emphasized that regardless of where they live, Fijians should always feel a sense of belonging, as they remain valued members of their homeland. He encouraged the Fijians in Australia to abide by the law and contribute positively to their new environment.

Reflecting on his recent international trips to countries such as Britain, Ireland, Rome, Abu Dhabi, and India, President Lalabalavu described these journeys as vital for strengthening Fiji’s relationships with other nations while also engaging with Fijian communities living abroad.

During his insights from India, the President shared the impactful teachings of Sai Baba, particularly messages stressing the importance of love and service. President Lalabalavu also acknowledged the critical role of remittances from the Fijian diaspora, which significantly support families and enhance Fiji’s social and economic landscape. He praised the community for strengthening the Fiji-Australia Vuvale Partnership through unity and service, urging them to continue caring for one another both in Australia and Fiji.

The gathering underscores not only the enduring bonds of the Fijian diaspora but also the President’s commitment to fostering these connections, promoting a sense of compassion and unity that resonates deeply within Fijian communities around the world.
