Fiji President Calls for Unconditional Love to Heal a Nation Marked by Coups

President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu has sent a powerful message advocating for unity and healing in Fiji, drawing attention to the historical context of the country’s political challenges and the need for compassion among its people. Speaking at the One World One Family World Cultural Festival in India, the President underscored that Fiji’s turbulent history, marked by five military coups and multiple constitutional changes, illustrates that lasting peace cannot be achieved through laws alone but must be rooted in sincere human connections.

During his address, President Lalabalavu reflected on Fiji’s struggles, highlighting the absence of love and understanding within its communities despite cultural richness. He acknowledged the contributions of Indo-Fijians and the unique linguistic heritage they bring, yet lamented the lack of a compassionate spirit that should accompany such diversity.

The President emphasized that love has a profound power that transcends political and social barriers. He used the humanitarian efforts of the Sri Madhusudan Sai Global Humanitarian Mission as a prime example, praising its model of universal healthcare that focuses on serving the needy without distinction between wealth or status. “Illness recognizes no boundaries,” he noted, pointing out that the pursuit of health and wellbeing is a universal challenge that all humans face.

Urging the global audience, as well as the people of Fiji, to embody the Mission’s emphasis on unconditional love, he said, “There shouldn’t be any barriers in the way we share love.” He called for an outreach of love from the heart, encouraging individuals to connect with those who need it the most.

In closing, President Lalabalavu highlighted that true service is not measured by policies but by the impact on individuals’ lives, reflected in their smiles and gratitude. His poignant remarks aim to inspire a collective commitment to compassion and service among Fijians, aiming for a future where unity prevails over division.

This hopeful outlook aligns with his previous speeches that emphasized resilience, reconciliation, and the need for a cohesive society. The President’s vision continues to resonate with the fundamental idea of nurturing community relationships, encouraging Fijians to foster a spirit of love and kindness in both their daily lives and broader societal interactions. In doing so, there is a potential for a brighter and more inclusive future for all citizens of Fiji.
