The Fijian Government has pledged $1.3 million to facilitate the hosting of the 2024 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Suva. This announcement was made by Permanent Secretary Meli Nacuva during the official opening ceremony held at the Vodafone Arena in Suva yesterday.

The championship is a noteworthy event for Fiji, attracting competitors from renowned weightlifting countries such as India, England, Malaysia, Singapore, Wales, Canada, and Sri Lanka. With more than 210 participants from 25 nations, the week-long competition promises to deliver exciting performances at the Vodafone Arena.

Nacuva highlighted the core values of discipline, perseverance, and determination that weightlifting fosters and encouraged the Fijian community to support the athletes. He also expressed appreciation to all the athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and sponsors for their commitment to ensuring the event’s success.
