Emergency operations in the Western Division of Fiji are set to remain in place as the Fiji Meteorological Service forecasts continued rainfall over the weekend. Divisional Commissioner Western, Apolosi Lewaqai, has urged the public to take necessary precautions due to this expected weather.
To support those affected by recent floods, relief efforts have been implemented effectively. Officials report that food rations have been provided to 61 families currently sheltered in evacuation centres, including Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office.
These centres are not only providing shelter but have also become hubs of community support. Various organizations, including faith-based groups and non-governmental organizations, have donated cooked meals, bottled water, and food rations, as well as hygiene kits, to assist the evacuees.
For those in need of help, assistance can be reached through the following contacts:
– Commissioner Western’s Office: 6664946
– Commissioner Western’s Direct Line: 9937346
– Local Police Station for emergencies.
In times of adversity, it is heartening to see communities come together to support one another. This ongoing relief effort serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength of the people in Fiji.
