A Tropical Disturbance designated as TD09F is currently situated in the far northeast of Fiji and is anticipated to move southward, gaining intensity over the coming days. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service’s latest bulletin, TD09F could approach Fiji waters near the northeast of Vanua Levu as a Tropical Depression. However, the likelihood of it developing into a Tropical Cyclone is assessed as low to moderate.

As a precaution, a strong wind warning has been issued for the Northern Division and northeastern regions of Viti Levu, specifically from Tailevu North through Ra-Rakiraki up to Tavua, as well as the Yasawa, Mamanuca, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. The warning has now been expanded to include Kadavu and its nearby smaller islands. Additionally, a heavy rain alert is in effect for the entire Northern Division and the Yasawa Group, with further warnings extending to the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and certain areas of eastern Viti Levu.

Residents in these regions are advised to prepare for substantial rainfall, which may result in localized flooding, particularly in areas already saturated from prior weather events. It is crucial for communities to stay informed through local authorities and remain vigilant to mitigate the risks associated with flooding and strong winds.

This occurrence underscores the importance of community readiness and cooperation in facing potential weather adversities. Strengthening community bonds and ensuring preparedness can significantly enhance safety during challenging weather situations.

In a hopeful light, while this disturbance presents potential difficulties, it also serves as an opportunity for communities to unite and prioritize safety and preparedness at this critical juncture.
