A national squad will be formed for the upcoming Four Nations T20 cricket tournament in March 2025, following the conclusion of the ongoing 2024/2025 Suva Women’s T20 League and a match-up against the women’s team from Nadi. Cricket Fiji president Sitiveni Rokoro confirmed this development during the fourth round of competitions held at Albert Park, emphasizing that the league is crucial for selecting players for national duties.

Rokoro pointed out that this league serves as vital preparation for the national team that is set to compete in the inaugural Four Nations tournament hosted by Cricket France in New Caledonia from March 9-15. Fiji’s team will face off against Japan and Papua New Guinea in this exciting international event.

The selection process will be highly competitive, as current members of the national team will have to contest against players from the Suva league and the Nadi team. Rokoro noted the challenge and excitement of this competition, stating, “So they will be challenging the senior women for a place in this team to New Caledonia.”

Last year, the Fiji women’s national team participated in the under-19 category for the first time, competing in the Asia Pacific World Cup qualifiers in Bali, Indonesia. This continued focus on women’s cricket, alongside significant upcoming events, marks a promising trend for the sport in Fiji.

Looking ahead, 2025 will be a groundbreaking year for women’s cricket in Fiji. Apart from the Four Nations tournament, Fiji will also host the ICC T20 East Asia Pacific qualifier, with seven teams vying for a chance to qualify for the Women’s World Cup in 2026.

In conclusion, the ongoing efforts to promote women’s cricket showcase a growing commitment to the sport, enhancing opportunities not only for current athletes but also for the next generation of cricketers. The increased participation, grassroots initiatives, and international exposure highlight a hopeful and flourishing future for cricket in Fiji.
