Divisional operations in Fiji have mobilized their standby teams at station levels in anticipation of potential emergencies as Tropical Cyclone Rae approaches the archipelago. Assistant Commissioner of Police Livai Driu has been in communication with officers on Vanuabalavu regarding the developments on the ground and has reported that police are actively assisting families in relocating to evacuation centers.

ACP Driu has urged residents, particularly those living in coastal and low-lying areas, to take immediate action to ensure their safety. He has advised motorists to exercise caution as visibility may be compromised due to adverse weather conditions, and has called on mariners to adhere to safety advisories regarding maritime movement.

These proactive measures echo previous warnings from ACP Driu, where he highlighted the importance of vigilance amidst heavy rain and the risks associated with flooding in the Western Division. The Fiji Police Force has previously implemented movement restrictions in towns affected by rising waters, showcasing a readiness to protect the community.

Currently, four evacuation centers are operational in the Western Division, providing shelter for those in need, with plans for more if conditions worsen. This emphasizes the critical role that local authorities play in safeguarding lives during adverse weather events.

As communities face the challenges brought by Tropical Cyclone Rae, the collective efforts of emergency services and public cooperation will be essential in navigating this crisis. Authorities are dedicated to keeping residents informed and supported, fostering a sense of hope and resilience as the situation evolves.
