Cabinet has approved Fiji’s attendance at the 113th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC), scheduled to take place from June 2 to June 13, 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland. This significant event will provide Fiji with a platform to present updates on labor-related issues.

Fiji’s tripartite delegation will be led by Employment, Productivity, and Workplace Relations Minister Agni Deo Singh, who will discuss the advancements made by the People’s Coalition Government in restoring the rights of workers, employers, and trade unions. A primary focus will be on the review of the Employment Relations Act (ERA) 2007, which aims to modernize labor laws in line with international standards.

This participation at the ILC aligns with the proactive stance Fiji has taken towards enhancing its labor laws and regulatory frameworks. Similar past initiatives highlight Fiji’s commitment to addressing labor challenges and conforming to International Labour Organization (ILO) standards.

Moreover, recent discussions in Fiji have emphasized the importance of collaboration among government, workers, and employers, which is pivotal in enhancing workforce welfare. By showcasing its efforts at the ILC, Fiji aims to solidify its international standing and commitment to improving its labor sector, ultimately benefiting socio-economic conditions for its citizens.

In a broader context, Fiji’s ongoing initiatives, such as the National Employment Policy and efforts to address labor migration, reflect a collective hope for a strengthened future in the employment landscape. The optimism surrounding these measures aims to foster a more resilient and equitable workforce, indicative of Fiji’s determination to improve labor rights and conditions across the nation.
