Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has declared that 2025 will be a landmark year for Fiji, marking the country’s Emerald Jubilee, the 55th anniversary of its independence. In his message for the New Year, Rabuka expressed optimism despite the challenges the year may bring, emphasizing hopes for renewed strength, hope, and confidence that will foster prosperity and unity among the people of Fiji.
He encouraged everyone to carry a spirit of optimism, positivity, and patriotism, reminding citizens that confidence in Almighty God, their fellow citizens, and the nation itself is crucial. The Prime Minister cited the first verse of Fiji’s national anthem as a source of inspiration for this collective spirit.
Rabuka highlighted the importance of unity and goodwill, stating, “We celebrate the new year with a sense of renewed hope, forged through love and forgiveness.” He took time to commend civil servants, first responders, and military personnel for their commitment to maintaining safety and order throughout the previous year. He also recognized those serving abroad in peacekeeping roles and humanitarian missions, including Fiji’s team active in Vanuatu, praising their dedication.
Looking ahead, Rabuka noted that one of the significant domestic initiatives will be the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, aimed at promoting healing, truth-telling, and social cohesion. On the global stage, Fiji intends to continue advocating for the Ocean of Peace concept, which remains integral to its foreign policy.
This optimistic call to action provides a promising outlook for the nation, presenting an opportunity for collective growth and recovery in the coming years. It reflects a hopeful vision for 2025, as the country prepares to celebrate its rich history while aiming for a brighter future.
