The Fiji Powerlifting team delivered an outstanding performance at the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championship, bringing home an impressive total of 19 medals. Competing against some of the finest powerlifters from the region, the team’s remarkable achievements emphasized their dedication, skill, and hard work.
In an exciting debut, Vivaan Patel emerged victorious in the Sub-Junior category, clinching the gold medal. Meanwhile, Vinesh Chand secured a bronze medal in the U74kg Open category. Faga Varea also shone in his first international competition in the U93kg Open category, capturing silver in the Squat, Bench, and Total events. Additionally, Muzammil Ali earned a bronze in the same weight class.
Viliame Lagonilakeba faced formidable opponents in the U105kg class, ultimately finishing with a bronze. Kurt Wise made his mark as well, taking home silver in the U120kg Open category.
This remarkable success signifies a pivotal moment for Fiji powerlifting, highlighting the athletes’ commitment and preparation. Competing at this level provided them with invaluable international experience. The team set a primary objective in Nauru to showcase Fiji’s talents in the sport, which they not only achieved but exceeded, exemplifying unity and outstanding sportsmanship.
