The Fiji Powerlifting team is competing in the 2024 Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships, which officially kicked off yesterday in Nauru. Athletes are taking part in various weight categories, including under 74kg, under 83kg (sub-junior), under 93kg, under 105kg, and under 120kg.

The national team is confident in their preparations and is focused on securing gold medals at the championship. Viliame Lagonilakeba, president of Fiji Powerlifting, emphasized that the athletes are ready to face any challenges. They underwent a rigorous national competition in September, followed by a thorough six-week training program devised by Ryan Bale of Fiji Strength Systems. Lagonilakeba highlighted the team’s commitment to balancing intense training with proper recovery, ensuring they are well-prepared for the Oceania Championships.

The organization has expressed gratitude to the Fijian government and the Fiji Sports Commission for their support in facilitating the team’s trip to Nauru. As Fiji Powerlifting continues to grow in popularity, the team aims to leverage the positive reception and enthusiasm they’ve experienced thus far. The athletes have also received encouragement from the Fijian community in Nauru, for which they are very thankful.

The national squad departed from Fiji on Wednesday and is optimistic about their performance in the competition.

This event not only showcases the talent and dedication of Fijian athletes but also emphasizes the growing prominence of powerlifting in the country, fueling hope for future success and recognition in the sport.
