Fiji has achieved a new milestone in tourism with a record 986,367 visitor arrivals in 2025, reflecting a modest increase of 0.3 percent from the previous year. This surge signifies a steady recovery in the tourism sector as global travel resumes post-pandemic.

The Fiji Bureau of Statistics highlights that August was the busiest month, welcoming 99,737 visitors, which constituted 10.1 percent of the annual total. July and June followed closely, with arrivals of 99,311 and 92,693, respectively. Australia and New Zealand remained the primary markets for visitors, with Australia alone contributing 452,422 arrivals, or 45.9 percent of the total. New Zealand was also significant, bringing in 219,301 visitors, which accounted for 22.2 percent.

The data reveals that the majority of visitors came for leisure, with 779,447 people traveling for holiday purposes, representing 79 percent of arrivals. Additionally, 80,871 visitors arrived to connect with friends and family, while 21,513 traveled for business. Others accounted for 103,320 visitors, arriving for various other reasons.

In December 2025, Fiji recorded 84,995 visitor arrivals, indicating a nine percent rise from November, which saw 77,963 visitors. Among the December arrivals, 83,969 came by air, while 1,026 arrived by sea, a figure that predominantly included seamen from fishing vessels, along with 18 yacht arrivals. Consistent with trends throughout the year, holidaymakers represented 77.8 percent of December’s visitors, with those visiting friends and family making up 11 percent, business travelers 1.3 percent, and another nine percent categorized as arriving for other purposes.

This upward trend in tourism heralds a promising future for Fiji’s economy and showcases the nation’s continued appeal as a holiday destination. As travel resumes and the industry adapts to changing dynamics, ongoing support for the tourism sector may result in continued growth in the years to come.
