The investigation into the final report of the Barbara Malimali Commission of Inquiry (COI) remains a top priority for the Fiji Police Force, according to Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu. Despite a recent leak of information that has surfaced, Commissioner Tudravu assures that this will not compromise the integrity or progress of the inquiry.

Tudravu emphasized that the police will follow their established protocol in conducting the investigation, which will be managed by a specialized team of seasoned officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). He reassured the public, urging them to trust the investigative process as it unfolds, stating, “The investigation is being conducted by senior CID investigators who have years of experience in handling cases of national interest.”

This investigation was initiated after President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu formally referred the final COI report to the police and FICAC (the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption). In light of this, Commissioner Tudravu has already met with senior officers to strategize their investigative approach.

The ongoing inquiry is of critical importance as it addresses concerns over the appointment practices linked to former FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali. It reflects a broader desire within Fiji’s community for enhanced transparency, accountability, and ethical governance in public institutions.

In related discussions, previous articles have highlighted the potential for this investigation to bring about necessary reforms in how public service appointments are managed. The proactive actions from the police symbolize a commitment to restoring public trust in governance structures, aligning with the hopes of citizens for a more transparent and accountable political environment.

As the investigation progresses, the engagement of experienced investigators and the call for public trust bolster optimism for meaningful outcomes that can transform electoral integrity in Fiji’s governance framework.
