Fiji Police Warn: Stay Safe This Festival Weekend!

The Fiji Police Force is urging all citizens to prioritize their safety and security as a busy weekend of events approaches.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations Livai Driu noted that recent major conferences and gatherings have been largely incident-free. However, with the anticipated festivals and increased public activity, police operations will focus on major cities and towns.

Driu cautioned that opportunistic criminals might exploit the relaxed atmosphere, stressing the importance of safety precautions. He highlighted common targets for crime, including car break-ins, pickpocketing, and the theft of personal belongings such as bags, wallets, and mobile phones. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant regarding their safety.

Additionally, ACP Driu issued a stern warning to drug dealers, indicating that law enforcement will intensify efforts against illegal trade across the five policing divisions. He also reminded homeowners to ensure the security of their properties at all times.

Finally, the Fiji Police Force is advising vehicle owners to avoid complacency regarding their cars’ security. They emphasized the importance of not leaving keys in the ignition, keeping doors locked, and ensuring windows are closed to prevent motor vehicle theft.
