The Fiji Police Force has issued a call for increased vigilance as heavy rainfall and flooding impact various regions of the country during the Christmas season. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that water levels are rising, urging parents to keep their children away from flooded areas.

Driu highlighted the significance of safety, referencing previous incidents in which parents faced consequences for their children’s safety in similar situations. “The Weather Office has provided advisories for the upcoming days, and we have already received reports of flooding in certain areas. We ask all parents to take this warning seriously and ensure their children stay away from flooded waters,” stated ACP Driu.

Throughout the festive period, police will be actively monitoring areas affected by flooding, aiming to minimize the risk of accidents. “Our officers will be on the ground monitoring the situation, ensuring safety in flooded areas. It’s Christmas Eve, and our goal is to prevent any unfortunate incidents from occurring,” he added.

ACP Driu also called for the community to come together to promote safety during this holiday season.

In summary, the Fiji Police are taking proactive measures to address flooding risks during the Christmas holiday, with an emphasis on community safety and the well-being of children. This underscores the importance of vigilance not only for personal safety but also for the welfare of the community as a whole. By remaining alert and following safety advisories, families can help ensure a safer holiday season for everyone.
