The Fiji Police Force is advising the community to remain alert as heavy rainfall and flooding are currently impacting various regions of the country during the Christmas season.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, highlighted the concern of rising water levels and urged parents to keep their children away from flooded areas to prevent accidents. His statement reinforces the importance of safety, especially considering previous instances where parents faced consequences due to negligence in watching over their children.
“The Weather Office has issued advisories for the coming days, and we have already received reports of flooding in several locations. We strongly urge all parents to ensure their children steer clear of flooded waters,” stated ACP Driu.
To enhance community safety, police will be actively monitoring affected areas throughout the festive season. ACP Driu emphasized the goal is to minimize accidents and maintain a safe environment during this joyous time.
“Law enforcement will be present to oversee the situation and check on flood-prone areas. As we enter Christmas Eve, it is our hope to prevent any unfortunate incidents,” he remarked.
The Assistant Commissioner further emphasized the need for community cooperation to ensure safety for everyone during this holiday period.
This proactive approach from the Fiji Police serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and caution, especially during severe weather events. By working together, individuals and families can help create a safer festive season for all.
